On June 6, 2024, Maryland MEP and RMI hosted the second annual Energy and Environment for Maryland Manufacturers (E2M2) Summit, in partnership with the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). Held in Columbia, MD the half-day event was attended by nearly 150 leaders from manufacturing, sustainability and industry to discuss energy efficiency, best practices, environmental stewardship, and more.
The summit kicked off with opening remarks from Mike Kelleher, Executive Director of Maryland MEP who welcomed attendees and shared the successes of the program which over the last twelve months has identified nearly $1 billion in potential energy for Maryland Manufacturers. Mike Galiazzo, President of RMI, joined MEP on stage and welcomed MEA Director, Paul G. Pinsky. Director Pinsky reaffirmed Maryland’s commitment to energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland, and set the stage for a series of presentations and discussions aimed at advancing sustainable practices within Maryland’s manufacturing sector. AstraZeneca, PRS Guitars, Northrop Grumman, and Linganore Wine Cellars shared their unique journeys and strategies towards achieving a more sustainable future.
John Krincek, Senior Director of Facilities & Engineering at AstraZeneca highlighted their commitment to eliminating carbon emissions by 2025, while Meghan Efland, Director of Supply Chain at PRS Guitars detailed their initiatives in cultivating a green culture. Mike Ensor, Sustainability Manager and Bryce Selby EV and Environmental Sustainability Lead at Northrop Grumman addressed the link between climate change and national security, and Anthony Aellen, President and Executive Winemaker at Linganore Winecellars showcased their innovative efforts in solar energy and waste reduction.
The E2M2 Summit underscored the importance of collaboration and continuous improvement in the pursuit of environmental sustainability. To continue this effort, Maryland MEP, through the E2M2 Program, aims to support manufacturers in navigating various incentives and programs that facilitate the adoption of energy-efficient and renewable technologies.
The E2M2 Summit serves as a vital touchpoint for Maryland manufacturers to connect with colleagues, share best practices, and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and innovations in sustainable manufacturing, reaffirming the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and resilience.
