For the eighth year in a row, Maryland MEP has been leading the charge on manufacturing internships in Maryland and across the county. In June, the 2024 Maryland Manufacturing Internship Program kicked off with 24 interns inside 12 manufacturing companies including Phoenix Mecano, Coty, Hardwire LLC, Miltec UV, EFI Group, Tulkoff Food Products, INPRO Technologies, Defense Architecture Systems, Danko Arlington, Lallemand, Pompeian and Platform Aerospace.
The Manufacturing Internship Program is a key initiative in Maryland MEP’s efforts to cultivate Maryland’s next generation of manufacturing talent. “Maryland is home to some of the most diverse and innovative manufacturers in the country and we want to ensure that we are doing our part to retain the best and the brightest students coming out of our universities.” Director, Mike Kelleher.
As host of the program, Maryland MEP facilitated group meetings and tours of local manufacturers throughout the summer, culminated by a capstone presentation that allowed each student to share their experience and projects throughout their internship.
The Manufacturing Internship Program supports Maryland manufacturers with the cost of hiring, onboarding and training summer interns. For the interns, they get an opportunity to dive into a dynamic industry, gain knowledge and valuable skills, explore manufacturing facilities across the state and make connections that can help pave the way for future opportunities.
The 2024 Manufacturing Internship Program was made possible due to support and funding from the Maryland Department of Labor’s EARN Maryland Program and the Regional Institute of Maryland (RMI). Mike Galiazzo, President of RMI and a pioneer for Maryland manufacturing, attended the capstone presentation event on August 1st stating, “These interns are eager to learn, dedicated to their disciplines and are future leaders in manufacturing. Manufacturers in Maryland should not hesitate to connect with Maryland MEP to have interns on their shop floor next year.”
