Recipe to Reality™
In this one-day seminar compress months of research into practical steps that help you decide whether—or how—to take your food idea to market.
Maryland MEP, in partnership with the Nebraska Food Production Center, brings the nationally recognized Recipe to Reality™ seminar to Maryland manufacturers. This one-day, instructor-led workshop walks through the essential business, regulatory, safety, and production questions every food entrepreneur should answer before investing in commercialization. The format is practical and interactive so you can apply lessons directly to your product concept.
Throughout the day we will cover the business and technical decisions you’ll face when moving a recipe from kitchen to commerce:
- Market research & selection — defining target customers and using research to test fit.
- Product & process development — options for commercializing your recipe and production pathways.
- Food regulatory issues & agencies — which regulators affect your product and how rules translate into formulation and operations.
- Packaging & labeling — required label elements and allowable claims.
- Pricing & cost analysis — building a competitive price that covers true costs.
- Product introduction & sales — routes to market and first-step sales tactics.
- Promotional materials — what to include in an effective starter promo package.
- Food safety & sanitation basics — essential microbiology and sanitation concerns.
- Business structure — protecting and organizing your business for growth.
This in-person format offers more than just presentations—you’ll connect face-to-face with industry experts, network with fellow food manufacturers, and get your questions answered in real time as you work through the material. Interactive brainstorming sessions ensure you leave not only with a clearer understanding of the challenges and requirements of starting a food business, but also with fresh, tailored ideas for your own product. By the end of the day, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to decide whether launching your food business is the right move for you.
