#MakeItinMD Tour Talks
@ Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services
Workforce challenges are a major concern for manufacturing employers in Maryland, and addressing this issue requires strong community partnerships. Maryland MEP is teaming up with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services to explore how their education and training programs support successful re-entry into the workforce for individuals who have been incarcerated.
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services operates 18 facilities focused on ensuring public safety through the incarceration of sentenced individuals. Their Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) program plays a vital role in this mission by enhancing employability through structured programs that develop interpersonal skills and job readiness. By reducing idleness within the facilities, the program also promotes a safer environment. Additionally, it produces quality goods and services while maintaining financial self-sufficiency.
The commitment to rehabilitation is evident in the diverse range of job skill training, educational programs, psychological support, and substance abuse treatment offered to offenders. Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE), one of the largest prison industries in the nation, provides a work environment that closely mirrors private sector standards.
We invite you to join us for a tour of one of these training facilities. During the tour, you will discover the programs and resources available to individuals preparing to re-enter the workforce. You will also hear from educators involved in these transformative initiatives and engage in discussions with individuals who are getting ready to return to the job market.
